Kirtan Yoga Teacher Training

What is Kirtan?

Professor Nikić tells us:

“Kirtans represent an ancient way of meditation through music and song. Kirtans are a kind of “internal communication” imbued with deep emotions that connects us with the deepest messages of our mysterious interior. Music moves along intimate paths – unrestrained towards the “Core” – “Center of Being” – “Essence”. Kirtan plunges into the depths and reveals the most mysterious beauties of our inner self.

Love, joy, excitement… appear as the answer.

The meaning of kirtan is not in the translation of its text, but in our feeling which produces vibrations.

In yoga, the vibrational significance of the words that make up the sentences of the Kirtan is emphasized. Tied with the knowledge of Nada yoga (a style of yoga in which sound is used as a tool of development) Kirtans form an important method in the development of yoga practitioners.

During the performance of Kirtan, short sentences, melodic line and rhythm are repeated and interwoven, so the participants produce vibrations that introduce them to higher states of consciousness. Kirtan skillfully led by a yoga teacher purifies the energy field (koshas) of the participants, strengthens the energy status, helps to overcome mental and emotional obstacles (kleshas) and reach the “correct identification” – the inner “I”.”

Vibrational Significance of Kirtan in Yoga

Kirtan yoga uses carefully composed vibrational syllables, with the goal of achieving liberation from the “inner obstacles” (kleshas) that prevent the yoga practitioner from achieving inner freedom (moksha).

Effects of Kirtan in Yoga

Performing Kirtan yoga helps practitioners to become aware of the inner experiences of: joy, bliss, love, unity, harmony and harmony with the environment. Kirtans in yoga express admiration for human values: goodness, love, peace… they move and express respect, gratitude, delight…

By using the voice while performing Kirtan Yoga, practitioners learn to express themselves emotionally, thereby increasing their emotional capacity, freedom and repertoire of emotional responses.

Due to the beneficial effect, Kirtans are used in yoga today primarily as an auxiliary method for the development of higher states of consciousness, but also for therapeutic purposes.”
